Arrow back on line

We are in the process of "hanging" the overhauled engine back on the Arrow, N3060M and it should be back on line next week. This is great news for all the commercial and CFI students who need a retractable single for the license. Also good news for those of you who fly cross country and need a faster airplane that the 172s. Call the office (916) 427-1888 before scheduling to ensure that the plane is flying.

Statements going out by snail mail

Many of our members have had trouble reading the emailed statements, so we will be sending all statements by surface mail from now on. If you do not receive a statement, it means that you have either a zero balance, or we don’t have your correct mailing address. Hopefully the post office will correct the second problem. We’ll continue to send the newsletter by email to save the cost of printing, which is considerable. If you have changed your mailing address in the past year and haven’t notified us about it, please call the office.

Instrument approaches at Sacramento Executive

There are FDC Notams out for the instrument approaches at Sac Exec. Currently, the minimums have been raised for the VOR and GPS approaches, the MDA has been raised for the Localizer approach and the published missed approach has changed. The straight-in ILS approach has returned to the published values. Before flying IFR in to Sac Exec, please check FDC Notams 6/2766 and 6/6670, as they have changed several times since being issued.

Archer off line

The owner has taken the Archer off line and it is for sale. If you would be interested in purchasing it, please email Ed at callaway@execflyers.com .

Rapidly changing weather

Please get a weather briefing when flying to any other airport from Sacramento Executive. Airports as close as Davis can have totally different weather from that at KSAC. Be especially careful when flying to or across the Sierra during the winter and always take food, water and warm clothing in case you have to land away from an airport. If you are going to Southern California, remember that the mountains between Bakersfield and Burbank are low, but can have severe weather that would make VFR impossible. As in all flying, remember that the alternatives to making it ALL the way to your destination are never good. When in doubt, do a 180 and come back to your starting point rather than pushing on toward your destination.

182 training

If any of you would like to move up to the glass cockpit in our 182, please email Ed or call the office and we’ll have a ground school class as soon as several people sign up. Glass cockpits are becoming more and more common and knowledge of them will be essential in the future. If you’d like to find out more about them, we have both a book and a CD course by Max Trescott that you can purchase and teach yourself about the systems.

182 fuel rebate extended

The owner of N585AM will be giving a fuel rebate of $200 for every 10 hours you fly in January in the Cessna 182. Once you have flown the time, get a rebate form at the office, fill it out and give it to Ed. He'll forward it to the owner who will write you a check for $200. The form must be completed within 30 days of finishing the 10 hours. This current offer is only good until the end of January. Save some money and fly the G1000 system at the same time. Contact the office or email Ed about the checkout procedure in the 182.
