Executive Flyers February 2004 Newsletter
Congratulations to:
Brad Andrews for passing his multi-engine ATP flight test and Trung Bui and Scott Jovich for winning the monthly drawing of an hour of instruction or a month’s dues.
Spring Flying
Time to break out your logbook and dig through your wallet to see if your medical and BFR are current. You can't fly solo or with passengers unless they are both current. Give us a call to get the doctor’s number or to sign up for a BFR.
At this time of year, Executive Airport may be IFR in fog while University, Yolo and Woodland are wide open. All of our airplanes are IFR current, so if you are a student, don't despair just because it’s only two miles visibility at Executive. Your instructor can get an instrument climb to VFR conditions and you can work at one of the western airports. Afternoons are better for fog avoidance. You can tune or call to get the ASOS information at these frequencies or numbers: University, Davis, (119.025),
(530) 754-6839; Yolo, (125.775), (530) 753-8562 and Nut Tree (134.75) (707) 448-1594.
Flying Companion Seminar
We'll have a flying companion (pinch hitter) course in March. The ground portion will be taught from 9:00 to noon on March 20th in the Executive Airport conference room. The flight portion can be scheduled at your convenience. If you regularly fly as a passenger, this is the course for you. We'll teach you to fly the plane, talk on the radio, navigate and land. The cost for the ground session is $50. The plane and instructor will be at the regular rates. Call the office to sign up for the course.
Help our cash flow
Last year was a slow year for Executive Flyers and the fog during this winter has brought our incoming cash flow to a standstill. However, our bills keep coming. You can help us in a variety of ways: If you owe money on your account, please pay it now. If the weather clears for a day, please come out and fly for an hour or so. If you're rusty from the layoff, take a flight with an instructor. If your BFR or instrument currency are about to run out, renew them now. If you can put some money on your account, it will help us. As an incentive for you to fly now, you're give you a 5% discount on the fixed gear aircraft rental rate for the month of February. The discount will be 3% for the retractables and twin. I look forward to seeing you up in the air.
Santa Rosa 99s scholarship
The Santa Rosa 99s will award one $3000 aviation scholarship this year. The eligibility requirements are,”Any woman at least 17 years of age, holding at minimum a current private license, a current medical and a current flight review. Must reside within 150 miles of Santa Rosa Airport (Sacramento is), be eligible for the rating being applied for (i.e.: number of flight hours required, rating required, medical required) and have completed any written requirements for the rating before funds are dispersed”. The application is due by May 1, 2004. We have some applications in the office or you can obtain one at http://www.homestead.com/santarosa99s/scholarship.html.
What would you like?
Would you be interested in taking short (3 hours to all day) courses on GPS? IFR or VFR refresher courses? How about weekend preparatory courses for the knowledge tests? Accelerated ground schools where you would be ready for the knowledge test in two to four weeks? Accelerated flight training for any of the ratings? Let Ed know.
