N585AM, the G1000 182 is for sale

The owner of N585AM has put the plane up for sale. You can see the details at www.aso.com.For more information call Alberto at (916) 705-8655 or Jerry at (530) 218-1526 or (530) 878-7474. Executive Flyers would love to keep the plane on line. If you or you and some friends would like to buy the plane and keep it on line with us, please let Ed know. As an incentive to keeping it on line, Ed will personally give the new owner(s) the full checkout course of four hours of ground school and five hours in the airplane free of charge.

CMM courses

If you are using one of the CPC King School CD-ROM courses, ("Cleared for Takeoff, Cleared for Approach" or "Cleared for Hire")please be aware that you will have to obtain a new setup disc from King Schools if you install Microsoft's new operating system Vista. Also, any new kits sold after the Vista compatible programs are released will NOT be compatible with Windows 98. They WILL be compatible with Windows XP and Windows 2000. I have not received word about the upgraded courses or setup discs from King schools to date, but should shortly.

Unmanned aircraft flying near Beale AFB

The FAA has issued a TFR for the Beale AFB/Marysville area for Tuesday, February 13th. The following is part of a bulletin from AOPA: "There will be a 10-nautical-mile-radius temporary flight restriction (TFR) centered on the MYV VOR's 055-degree radial at 6.7 miles, extending up to Flight Level 180. It will be in effect from 11:45 a.m. local until 2:45 p.m. local on Tuesday. Aircraft operating within the TFR must have a discrete transponder code assigned by air traffic control and must maintain radio contact with ATC. See AOPA Online for the full text of the notam along with a graphical depiction ( http://www.aopa.org/whatsnew/notams.html#7/2891 )." The affected landing facilities are Beale AFB (BAB), Yuba County (MYV), and Sutter County (O52). This TFR will be activated regularly as the planes are tested. Call the FSS before any flight to check for TFRs.

Engine overhauls

Four of our aircraft came up on their mandatory engine overhaul time within a few months of each other. Please be patient as we get them overhauled and back into service.

Rapidly changing weather

Please get a weather briefing when flying to any other airport from Sacramento Executive. Airports as close as Davis can have totally different weather from that at KSAC. Be especially careful when flying to or across the Sierra during the winter and always take food, water and warm clothing in case you have to land away from an airport. If you are going to Southern California, remember that the mountains between Bakersfield and Burbank are low, but can have severe weather that would make VFR impossible. As in all flying, remember that the alternatives to making it ALL the way to your destination are never good. When in doubt, do a 180 and come back to your starting point rather than pushing on toward your destination.

G1000 glass cockpit training

If any of you would like to move up to the glass cockpit, please email Ed or call the office and we'll have a ground school class as soon as several people sign up. Glass cockpits are becoming more and more common and knowledge of them will be essential in the future. If you'd like to find out more about them, we have both a book and a CD course by Max Trescott that you can purchase and teach yourself about the systems.
