G-1000 Ground School

The next Garmin G-1000 "glass panel" ground school will be taught on Saturday, March 25th from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm in the conference room at Executive Airport. It will be the first part of the required five hours ground training required for the C182T. The special, one-time only cost of the five hours of ground training will be $100, which includes a new book for the G-1000 system, Max Trescott's G1000 glass cockpit handbook, and the pilot's operating handbook for the C182T. After completing the ground school, you will be required to fly at least four hours in the aircraft to become familiar with the system. Call the office to find out the time and rating requirements to fly the C182T and to sign up for the ground school. This is an amazing aircraft and the "glass panel" will be the standard in most new aircraft in the future.

It's that time of year...

I noticed a house finch sitting on the shade hangar singing the other day. These little birds love to build nests in enclosed places, like engine compartments. Make sure that you check for nests between the cylinders before flight. They are a definite fire hazard and can be built in a few hours by the industrious birds. The weather is unsettled and the winds can increase from calm to 40 knots in a few hours. Make sure you check the forecast weather before any flight. The wind direction can change by as much as 180 degrees on the east and west sides of the Sacramento valley. Don't assume that a gentle wind from the south at Executive Airport will be anything like the winds at Yolo County or Woodland. Use DUAT or DUATS or call the FSS to find out what the weather is like before you go. It's time to check your medical and flight review to make sure that you are current. If you haven't flown much in the winter, schedule a dual ride with an instructor to make sure that your flying skills are adequate for a safe solo flight. If you are planning to go to mountain airports this summer, get a mountain checkout or refresher flight to bring you up to date on high altitude operations.

Mather Air Show

There will be an air show at Mather airport on the 18th and 19th of this month. See http://www.californiacapitalairshow.com/ for details and how to purchase tickets. The Blue Angels, Julie Clark, static displays, etc. It will be an amazing show.
