Aviation Career Seminar
We'll have our free semi-annual aviation career seminar on Saturday morning April 24th at the Executive Airport conference room starting at 9:00 am. During this 2-3 hour seminar, we have pilots from all stages of their career – from instructors to current airline pilots to retired pilots with 10s of thousands of hours - talk about how they got into flying and how they got to where they are in their flying profession. Some of the seminar attendees in the past have gone on to train with Executive Flyers and are now flying for the airlines. If you are interested in pursuing a career in aviation, be sure to attend the seminar. If you know a young man or woman who has expressed interest in flying, please tell them about the seminar. We will have literature on becoming a pilot as well as information about careers to hand out. Call the office at 427-1888 to sign up.
Birds
The migration season is here and there are plenty of waterfowl around Executive Airport. Bird strikes are more likely to happen at night, since you can't see them coming, so limit the number of your night instrument approaches into Executive and other valley airports. If you would like information on bird strikes and what you can do to avoid them, see the FAA wildlife page at http://wildlife-mitigation.tc.faa.gov/public_html/index.html#info.
“Between 1990 and 2002, 46,514 (avg. = 3,578/year) strikes were reported to the FAA. Birds were involved in 97 percent of the reported strikes, mammals in 2 percent, and reptiles (7 alligators!) in less than 1 percent. Strikes were reported at 1,356 airports (1,200 airports in the USA and 156 foreign airports where USA-based aircraft were involved).” You can minimize the chance of a bird strike by turning on your landing or taxi light when you are in an area where the birds are and by making sure that your outside scan is constant.
Private ground school
Our next private ground school will start on April 20th and be taught each Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30 in the conference room. The cost is $150 for members, plus supplies. Call the office to sign up.
Aircraft for sale
If your total time is 750 hours or better, retractable time 250 or better, you are instrument rated and current and you have 25 hours in a Beech F33-A (negotiable), you can be a 1/3 partner in a
pristine 1978 F33-A. I don't usually put for sale information in the newsletter, but I have flown in this airplane and it is beautiful. It has 2300 hours total time, 400 hours since a custom engine rebuild by Lycon., is full IFR including HSI, autopilot, dual Collins nav/coms, dual GS, DME, etc. In original condition, it has been owned and hangared at KSAC since 1980. For more information, call Michael at (916) 392-7110 day or (916) 983-3011 in the evening.
FAA safety meeting notification
You can get automatic notification by email of the aviation safety meetings in any area by signing up at http://faasafety.gov/.
Easter
The office will be closed on Easter Sunday, April 11. Please call ahead of time to schedule a plane.
