Flying Companion Seminar
The Sacramento Valley Chapter of the 99s is sponsoring a flying companion seminar on Saturday, May 20th from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Sacramento Executive Conference Room. A $60 donation ($75 after May 10th) includes all course materials, lunch and a certificate of completion. Attendees should bring a flight computer or calculator, plotter and a San Francisco sectional, if available. This is an excellent course for non-pilots who fly regularly with their pilot spouse or friend and would like to have a basic knowledge of flying so that they could fly and land the plane if the pilot were unable to. To sign up for the course, send your name, address, telephone number and email to Sharon Raney, 112 Hidden Lake Circle, Sacramento, CA 95831-3233. For more information, please call Dorothy Flynn at (530) 666-2992 or Bobbie Campbell at (916) 362-3164.
G-1000 Ground School
The next Garmin G-1000 "glass panel" ground school
will be taught on Saturday, May 13th, from 9:00 am to 12:00
pm in the Executive Flyers training room. It will be the
first part of the required five hours ground training required for the C182T.
The special, one-time only cost of the five hours of ground training
will be $100, which includes a new book for the G-1000 system, Max Trescott's
G1000 glass cockpit handbook, and the pilot's operating handbook for the C182T.
After completing the ground school, you will be required to fly at least four
hours in the aircraft to become familiar with the system. Call the office to
find out the rating requirements to fly the C182T and to sign up for
the ground school. This is an amazing aircraft and the "glass panel"
will be the standard in most new aircraft in the future. See the last entry in this newsletter for information on making our G-1000 aircraft pay for some of your flying.
Gas still going up
The price of gas has steadily risen for airplanes as well as cars and the cost is over $5.00 per gallon at Executive Airport. If you are on a trip or training at another field, please use the Chevron card to put as much fuel in the plane as weight and balance will permit before returning to Exec. If the Chevron card doesn't work at that field and you can pay for the fuel yourself, we will credit your flight for the amount that you spend. Just bring us the receipt. Other ways to save money on flying are to share the flight with another pilot or interested passenger. Share the fun of flying (and the cost) and you may even get a friend interested in being a pilot.
Free flying for you!
Most of you are aware that if you recommend a new member to the club and he or she joins, we will add $60 to your account as a thank you. If you recommend someone to the club who joins and checks out in our glass panel aircraft, we will add $120 to your account. Help us get more pilots flying the new planes and we'll help you with your flying.
