Photo ID

As part of the increased security program at Executive Airport, we are now requiring that each new student or pilot have a photo ID and a medical before they can rent planes or take lessons. We may also ask you for your photo ID if we do not recognize you when you come in to rent a plane. We hope that you will not take offense at this. An instructor or staff member will know most of you. If you are a new student or renter, please be patient with us when we ask for ID. We will get to know you soon. You can do your part in airport security by reporting any suspicious activity at the airport to the office or the airport staff.

File a flight plan

Be sure to file a flight plan when you go on a cross-country flight. Flight following is great as an add-on to the flight plan, but as your only aid, it may be cancelled at any time, leaving you unprotected.

N4796V for sale

Our 172RG is for sale. The owner is asking $75,000 for it. We would like to keep it on line. If you would be interested in finding out about the plane or about a leaseback agreement, please contact Ed at callaway@execflyers.com or call the office at (916) 427-1888. If you would be interested in a partnership or three-way ownership of the plane, please mention that when you email or call.

New members

The lifeblood of a flight school is its students. If you know of anyone who has expressed an interest in flying, please recommend him or her to us. If you know a young person and would like to help them, give them a gift certificate for an introductory flight or possibly a few hours of instruction. Many people are bitten by the flying bug in early life, but can't afford to fly. If you know someone who can now afford to fly, urge him or her to try flying with Executive Flyers. Make sure that they put your name on their application, as we will credit your account with $60 for each new member that you recommend to us.

Private groundschool

The private ground school started only two weeks ago. There is still time to attend or audit the course. Call the office to sign up.

Refresher flights

Time to dust off your flying skills and take a refresher flight with an instructor. We'll give you 10% off the rental rate AND the instructor and you'll be a safer pilot. Only one refresher flight per pilot per year, please. Spring and summer flying is here and many of you will be off on vacation flights. If you will be going over or into the High Sierra, please get a mountain-flying checkout with an instructor. A typical mountain checkout would be a flight up I-80 to Truckee airport in the morning in a 172. (The 152 doesn't have enough power to safely fly out of mountain airports). After some takeoffs and landings at Truckee, you'll head south to South Lake Tahoe airport. You'll learn about leaning the mixture on takeoff and when NOT to push the mixture control all the way in on landing. Taking off to the south from Tahoe, you may have to spiral up over the golf course south of the field to gain enough altitude to clear Echo Summit on I-50 for the flight home.
