Ground Schools
The private pilot ground school will start in mid August. It will cost $150 for club members and $200 for nonclub members, plus the books and supplies. It will be taught twice a week from 6:30 to 8:30 in the evening. Call the office for information about the starting date and the days of the week on which it will be taught. If you already have your private license, but would like to refresh your aeronautical knowledge, you can audit the course for half price. The instrument ground school will start when we have enough people signed up. Please call the office if you would be interested in the instrument course.
Restaurant hours
The restaurant has changed it's operating hours. It is open from 7:00 am to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday and from 7:00 am to 9:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Try it for a great breakfast some morning.
Parking at Executive
Parking at Executive Airport is the pits! The new parking lot, which will be beautiful, is being built and it feels like everything is torn up between the terminal and Freeport Boulevard. There is two-hour parking for the restaurant and training flight times, but it moves around as the crews work on different parts of the lot. Please call the office before you come to the airport to find out where it is. If you wish to park for a longer time, you can do so in the spaces south of Executive Air Repair's hangar (used to be Clarksburg Air Repair) and north of Airborne Electronics. These spaces are those next to the West ramp. The construction is scheduled to be completed in January of 2003, so be patient and call ahead.
Office Hours
As a reminder, we have to spend some time driving to Sacramento Sky Ranch to replenish the office inventory, go to the bank and do other things during each day. To accomplish this, we are going to officially close the office from 12:30 to 2:00 each weekday. If you are flying during those hours, we will leave the keys in the lock box for you.
Fly a kid
If you would like to participate in this program on August 17th, call Walter Helm at 456-9020 for info.
Hot weather flying
With the temperature starting to go above the 38 degree Celsius mark (that's 100 degrees F ), there are some things you can do that will make you flying safer. When you are planning the flight, check the takeoff and landing distances for your aircraft using the highest temperature that is forecast for that day. If you are going to the mountains, plan to fly in the cooler parts of the day. Open the windows and doors during preflight to allow the interior of the plane to cool before flight. Make sure you have the maximum quantity of oil recommended to improve engine cooling. Climb at a higher airspeed (lower rate of climb) to improve engine cooling. Take drinking water with you for longer flights, as you won't notice that you are perspiring and can easily dehydrate. If you are flying toward the coast, be ready for fog.
