Our 23rd Year
October 1st was the start of our 23rd year in business. Some of the original members are still flying with the school. We have trained hundreds of students and had many members and instructors go on to the airlines. Our youngest flight instructor was seven months old when we opened for business! It has been hard work but great fun. I'm looking forward to another good year.
Prices going up
Our insurance for the airplanes increased by 35% this year. This means an increase in the rental rates of the aircraft. The increase was due to several things. All aircraft insurance is in one pool, so the whole insurance community absorbs the cost of paying for the 9/11 crashes. The decline in the stock market affected the insurance companies and caused a further increase in the rates. We will do what we can to hold other costs down...
10% discount on supplies and more
We have increased the member discount on almost all supplies, including aeronautical charts, to 10%. We will not give a discount on a few items that we sell at close to our cost, such as the aircraft manuals. Another benefit is the 5% bonus we give to members for putting $1000 or more on account in advance of its use for flying or purchasing supplies. If a member is listed on an application for membership in the "I heard about Executive Flyers from..." space, he or she will receive a bonus of $60 on their account.
Instrument Ground School
Fall is an ideal season for starting your instrument rating. You'll get to do some of your training in actual instrument conditions and you will be able to fly more in the winter. We will start the instrument ground school when we get enough people signed up. It will cost $150 for club members and $200 for nonclub members, plus the books and supplies. It will be taught twice a week from 6:30 to 8:30 in the evening. Call the office to sign up for the class. If you already have your instrument rating, but would like to refresh your aeronautical knowledge, you can audit the course for half price.
N4796V for sale
Our 172RG is for sale for $80,000. This is a fine cross-country plane. Please call the office for details.
Aviation Career Seminar
We will have an aviation career seminar on Saturday, November 2nd, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the conference room at Executive Airport. In this seminar, pilots from various points in their flying careers talk about why they got in to flying and what they did to get to their current position. There will also be handouts on learning to fly and aviation careers. If you are interested in pursuing a career in aviation, or know someone who is, please contact the office to sign up for the seminar, as space is limited.
Fall Flying
Rapidly changing weather conditions and an increase in migrating ducks and geese mark the start of fall. Check with the F.S.S. or DUAT before any flight. Make sure that you stay "outside" the cockpit to avoid the birds.
