Picture ID required
You are required to carry a picture ID when flying, as of November 1, 2002. You must show it to any FAA representative or law enforcement person on demand, just as you must show your pilot's license. Your driver's license will be sufficient. The FAA had been thinking of requiring a picture on your pilot's license! The AOPA suggested that it would be more cost effective to use a picture ID on some other document that already required it.
Parking
The parking lot construction is coming along nicely. They are in the process of surfacing the lot, so overnight parking is not allowed. When you come to the airport, follow the temporary signs to parking, as the spots available will change daily as the different areas are surfaced. The construction is scheduled to be completed in January, weather permitting. It will be worth the wait.
Crosswind landings
With the fall winds kicking in, the chance of having to make a crosswind landing increases. Remember to keep the ailerons turned into the wind on landing and use the rudder to hold the nose straight down the runway. THE MOST IMPORTANT thing to do after you are on the ground is continue to hold the ailerons into the wind and slowly add more aileron as the plane slows down. The idea is to keep the wings level by opposing the crosswind with the ailerons.
Instrument Ground School
Fall is an ideal season for starting your instrument rating. You'll get to do some of your training in actual instrument conditions and you will be able to fly more in the winter. The instrument ground school has just started. It will cost $150 for club members and $200 for nonclub members, plus the books and supplies. It will be taught twice a week from 6:30 to 8:30 in the evening. Call the office to sign up for the class. If you already have your instrument rating, but would like to refresh your aeronautical knowledge, you can audit the course for half price.
N4796V for sale
Our 172RG is for sale for $80,000. This is a fine cross-country plane. Please call the office for details.
10% discount on supplies and more
We have increased the member discount on almost all supplies, including aeronautical charts, to 10%. We will not give a discount on a few items that we sell at close to our cost, such as the aircraft manuals. Another benefit is the 5% bonus we give to members for putting $1000 or more on account in advance of its use for flying or purchasing supplies. If a member is listed on an application for membership in the "I heard about Executive Flyers from..." space, he or she will receive a bonus of $60 on their account.
Heels on the floor, please!
When you land or take off, please keep you feet off the brakes. "Flat spotting" the tires increases maintenance and rental costs.
