Executive Flyers November 2005 Newsletter

Congratulations to:

Eric Cunningham and Jonathan Smith for passing their private pilot checkrides and Christina Turk and Joseph Verderber for winning the monthly drawing of an hour of instruction or a month’s dues.

Birds and the season

The ducks and geese are starting to gather in the delta, so be alert for large flocks or small groups when you fly west of Executive airport. Turn on your landing light and if you have a choice, fly over the birds as then tend to dive when threatened. If you are instrument rated, make sure that you are current before you fly in IMC. It would be a good idea to do some approaches and holding with a safety pilot or instructor to ensure that you are up to speed when the ceiling goes below 500 feet and the visibility hovers around one mile. If you aren't instrument rated, now is an ideal season to work on it. If you're not sure about instrument flying, come out some rainy day and get a ride with an instrument instructor. You'll learn a whole new way of flying when you can't see the ground. It’s not only useful to be able to fly “on the gauges,” it’s also beautiful.

On-line scheduling

We're setting up the We're scheduling and would like you to sign up for it. It is best if you use the latest versions of either Microsoft’s Internet Explorer or Netscape 7.x, as some of the features won't work in other browsers. Point your browser to https://login.flightschedulepro.com/SelfService/UserSignupStep2.aspx?code=11887&id=11887&noauth=true (or Click here) in order to sign up. (I'll put this URL and the one below on our home page so that your can just click on them to get there, if you can't do it from here.) Once you have signed up for the program, I have to validate your name and then you'll be able to log in at https://login.flightschedulepro.com/login.aspx?code=11887&noauth=true (Click here) from then on. You will probably want to bookmark the login page, as loin be using it whenever you schedule. Make sure that you sign up even if you don't plan to use on-line scheduling. This will put your information in the system so that we can sign you up if you call in. Please DO NOT try to schedule on the program yet. You might be able to, but I can guarantee that you are going to be disappointed when you come in to fly and realize that your plane and/or instructor aren't here for you. As soon as we have all the startup problems behind us, we'll send you an email telling you that you can start scheduling. This will be convenient once we all learn to use it, but all beginnings are difficult!

Thanksgiving

The office will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, but open on the rest of the weekend. If you want to fly on Thanksgiving, please make sure to call the office ahead of time so that we can leave the keys out for you.

Potpourri

Welcome to Tony McMahon, our newest instructor. Tony can teach private, commercial and multi-engine students and will soon be able to teach instruments. He is a welcome addition to our teaching staff. With the winds and rain starting up, please be sure to install the control locks, wheel chocks and tie down chains securely after your flight. If you will also remember to take all your trash with you, the plane will be just the way you would like it for the next person. Check with flight service or on the Internet for the weather before any flight, as conditions can change rapidly and you don't want to be caught between a cloud and a mountain! Finally, remember to sign up for the on line scheduling.
