Executive Flyers December 2002 Newsletter

Congratulations to:

Thank you!

All of us at Executive Flyers, staff and instructors, want to thank all of our members for making our job so enjoyable. If it weren't for you, we wouldn't be here! We appreciate your patience with crossed up schedules, planes that break down just before you arrive for your scheduled flight and all the other problems that flight schools have. We wish all of you the happiest of holiday seasons and a peaceful and prosperous new year.

Ground schools

Our instrument ground school is in full swing and we plan to have a Private pilot ground school start up in January. If you know of anyone who would be interested, please give them our telephone number or email address. The private course will cost $150 for members and $200 for non-members, plus supplies. You may audit for half price if you already have the license or rating.

Instrument training

This is an ideal time of year to either begin work on your instrument rating or polish up your skills if you are already rated. The instrument rating is the most challenging of the ratings, but the most rewarding. If you would like to see what instrument flying is like, call the office on a rainy or foggy day to see if there is an instructor available to take you on a short instrument ride. You'll get to “shoot an approach” into Executive airport and listen to the radio work that accompanies it. If you have your instrument rating, consider practicing on our simulator. Although you can't log the time toward your proficiency hours, the cost is only $15 an hour for club members and the benefits are similar to flying with a safety pilot in an airplane. Once you have been checked out by a flight instructor, you can “solo” the simulator.

Holiday Office Hours

The office will be closed at noon on Christmas Eve and all day Christmas and at noon on New Years Eve and all day January 1st. As a reminder, we have to spend some time driving to Sacramento Sky Ranch to replenish the office inventory, go to the bank and do other things during each day. To accomplish this, we are going to officially close the office from 12:30 to 2:00 each weekday.

Holiday Presents

Deena has stocked the store with lots of things that you Elena possibly live without in your flying. There are books on almost every flying subject. We have several different brands of headsets and handheld radios and GPS receivers. If you don't want to spend a lot of money, there are hats, cups and license plate holders that even a flight school owner could afford. If we don't have what you want in stock, Deena may be able to order it for you. We also have gift certificates, so if someone would love to give you a present, but doesn't know what to give you, have them call us.

Foggy Weather

As the temperature drops, the sudden onset of “zero/zero” fog conditions becomes more likely. This often happens just after the sun comes up. If you fly before sunrise, be ready to wait till mid-day or later to get back in to Executive on cold, wet mornings. If the day is overcast, the fog can continue after morning. If it’s really cold and wet, watch out for the fog forming RAPIDLY just after sunset. Check the weather.
